Research Highlights

Sustainable food solutions: Combining the synthetic biology, bioprocess, and fermentation technology fields for the production of animal, dairy, and feed proteins, the major ingredients to provide the essence of meat to meat lovers. Although what we make is completely animal-free and can be termed vegan. 

Consolidated Bioprocessing: Two abundant renewable feedstocks seaweed or macro algae and lignocellulosic biomass, the former is an abundant source of glucose and galactose, whereas the later provides glucose and xylose, on pre-treatment and enzymatic hydrolysis. The strains S. cerevisiae is a known assimilator of glucose and galactose, and Pichia stipitis for glucose and xylose, and these strains can produce biofuels like bioethanol and isobutanol using these renewable feedstocks.

Biorefineries - Synthesis of Value added products : Biosynthesis of value added chemicals utilizing sustainable and renewable raw materials are emerging trends in biotechnology. Molecular techniques and microbial genetics has provided an additional prospective to the bioprocess engineering, renewing the interest in production of bio-based polymers, chemicals and fuels
